The Forum

The Roman Forum was an economic, political, judicial, financial and religious centre. It was the heart of the ancient city for over twelve centuries.

Originally, the term 'forum' referred to the main square where the population gathered. It was here that people brought their goods to trade. Its religious function, symbolised by the various temples, should not be overlooked. The Curia and the Rostra tribune bear also witness to the Forum's political function.
